"I see my photographs as two-dimensional time capsules that give selected subjects the gift of eternal life. The act of taking a photograph involves creating a piece of history, and with each snapshot, I would like to think that I have contributed a "piece of peace" in a time of war and taken a stand against the tragic but very real concept of mortality. I once wrote a poem about a rose nearing the end of its life in a crystal vase. The flower was able to grace us with its presence for only a short while, but it managed to preserve its color and beauty by inspiring creative prose. I am enamored with the idea that an animal or flower lives forever when it is subjected to creative media such as writing or photography. For this reason, flora and fauna take precedence over landscapes or inanimate objects in my work. One particular photograph in my collection, titled 'Surfacing,' is an autobiographical piece. It marks the realization of my calling as an artist, a key turning point in my life. Though mortal, I, too, am meant to inspire...bright and hopeful, rising toward the light, willingly seduced by the lens at long last." ~Katrina Boldt
